Vauxhall Astra

Vauxhall Astra motability carNew Astra now available to order alongside this, now old version.

The Vauxhall Astra has been with us since 1979 and is now in its sixth version. The European car of the year and best selling small family car of 2010 has been modestly updated for 2013 by adding a new front grille, front fog lights and a touch of chrome. The Astra is either a five door hatchback or a classy estate, both impressively refined offering a smooth and quiet ride while the upmarket interior is a big step forward and will help the Astra compete against the toughest of competition in the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus who rule the roost in this class of car but don’t discount the Astra out of had as as it handles well, comes well equipped and offers excellent value.

Vauxhall Astra motability car rearThankfully only five of the nine trim levels are available to mobility customers, the value ‘Design’ is a well appointed choice offering comfort and luxuries such as cruise control, steering wheel audio controls, air conditioning , electric front windows and electric heated mirrors. The SRi offers a slightly lower drive and a sportier feel, adds alloy wheels, a leather steering wheel and gear knob and chrome window surrounds which really make the car look great. The Tech Line has 17″ alloy wheels, Satellite navigation system with seven-inch colour monitor, mobile phone system with Bluetooth, digital radio and chrome-effect exterior side window surrounds, The Tech Line GT offers 18″ alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, lowered sports suspension, sports front seats and front fog lights. Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer motability carThe Astra estate, or Sports Tourer if you prefer, deserves a special mention as it combines delightful looks with excellent value and as an alternate to a small MPV or the ever so popular compact SUV it makes for an excellent family mover.  Boot space is increased to 500 litres from 351 for the hatchback. There is an engine for every eventuality to power the Astra, but the best combination of value, economy and power comes in the form of either the two litre diesel engine, on offer as a six speed manual or six speed automatic, producing 165 brake horse power that will reach 0-60 in 8.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 130 miles per hour, it will also give a combined miles per gallon of 62.8 as a manual or 48.7 as an automatic, this is a lot of performance in a high spec car, the new 1.6 litre diesel engine offering fuel consumption of up to 76.3 miles per gallon.
