PIP Motability Support

Motability support package for those at risk of losing out under PIP

Personal Independence Payment (PIP)Motability has announced a support package for those disabled adults who will lose out after being moved from disability living allowance (DLA) to personal independence payment (PIP).

PIP’s new tougher rules for assessing problems with walking, mean that some people over 16 years old moving onto PIP will lose their higher rate mobility payments. This means they will have to give back their Motability vehicle. To help people in this situation, Motability are giving support in the form of a ‘transitional support package’.

This package can help if:

  • you joined Motability scheme before January 2013 –  you may get a one off payment of £2,000
  • you joined the scheme in 2013 – you may get a one off payment of £1,000

  • there will also be options to buy your vehicle
  • no penalties for ending the lease early because of the PIP reassessment
  • and advance payments will be refunded depending on how long you have had the vehicle

Help will only be available to those who lose their car or vehicle as a result of being moved over onto PIP. You must also make sure that your vehicle is returned in good condition, within 21 days of your disability living allowance stopping.
