MG ZS

The Seat Arona sized Compact SUV from MG (ZS) has a 448 litre boot, 48 litres larger than the Arona, and an 8 inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay link. The 1.5 petrol manual car with 105bhp and 5 gears (49.6 mpg) is eclipsed by the 109bhp 1.0 three cylinder (Vauxhall shared) 6 speed automatic that returns 44.9 mpg.

The interior is reasonably well appointed with soft-touch materials on the upper section of the dashboard, but you can tell where costs have been contained. There’s no reach adjustment for the steering wheel, for instance, and you won’t have to look hard to find brittle, scratchy plastics.

Excite Trim comes with DAB radio, Apple CarPlay, climate control, cruise control heated wing mirrors, front fog lights and 17 inch alloys, while the range-topping Exclusive model adds rear parking sensors, leatherette upholstery and a reversing camera.

MG ZS EV Electric

The Chinese built budget Electric compact SUV comes to the Scheme. The 448 litre boot and seating for five (4+1 really) makes it a huge step in the right direction for those looking for a practical Electric car.  The numbers are quite impressive too, 0-62 in mph in 8.7 seconds with a limited top speed of 87 miles per hour. The ZS EV has a 44.5 kWh lithium-ion battery (liquid cooled) that equates to a ‘real world’ range of around 140 miles (official rating 163 miles WLTP) per full charge. Charging times are 6 1/2 hours on a typical home charger (7kW) from zero to full. Using a 50kWh public rapid charger 80% battery capacity can be reached in only 45 minutes. Two trim lines Excite and Exclusive, we are swayed towards the Exclusive for the panoramic glass roof and heated front seats. Prices have been reduced by up to £500 this quarter – £499 Advance Payment for the Excite trim and £999 for the Exclusive. *home wall charger included
