BMW X1 Motability Car frontThe new BMW X1 is based on same platform as the 2 Series Active Tourer and is therefore primarily front wheel drive (S-Drive) or intelligent all wheel drive (X-Drive) where it is driven by the front wheels but will add drive to all four if the conditions necessitate. This new X1 is 53mm higher and 23mm wider and while it is 36mm shorter it offers much more space, particularly for rear passengers who enjoy 66mm more legroom and the boot has increased by 85 litres to 505 and with the rear seats down the space increases to 1,550 litres which is 185 litres more than an Audi Q3. This extra space has been created by turning the engine through 90 degrees and moving the A-pillar forward by 150mm, leading the new X1 to appear more like a smaller X5 than the previous model that had more of a jacked up estate car look.

BMW X1 Motability Car sideTrim levels range from the basic SE (now the only X1 on the Scheme), through to Sport, xLine and top-spec M Sport. All cars come with sat-nav, 17inch alloy wheels, bluetooth audio, DAB radio, start/stop button with keyless start and a power-assisted tailgate. Sport models get racier details like 18 inch alloy wheels and contrasting stitching, while xLine cars add leather and a set of LED headlights. M Sport models are by far the most aggressive looking, with a big bodykit, sports seats and stiffer suspension. The optional extras list is long and ticking boxes can quickly add up, cruise control, which should be standard in a car this class, is £240, sliding rear seats £195, panoramic glass roof £945 and Electronic Damper Control at £390.
